Midwest Garage Band Series
Like many Midwestern adolescents and teenagers, I grew up lying under the covers in my dark bedroom at night, listening to KOMA out of Oklahoma City, on my transistor radio. One of the most exciting things was the band promos they played. Groups with cool sounding names like Spider & The Crabs playing in mysterious places like Anadarko. Ana-DARK-o! It was almost scary but intriguing at the same time. I longed to be there.
In 1994, Red Dog Records released a collection of recordings made by these garage bands through out the Midwest. I have no idea what it must have taken to accomplish that, but it had to be a labor of love. In that same spirit I am sharing these songs from an old cassette tape that lay hidden for so long, but has now been re-discovered. I don’t know how I acquired it, but I hope it helps to honor those that put their heart and soul into creating this material.
