Papa DooWop
The Lost Songs - Volume I
CD
This CD was created in 2017 after having the Frank Zappa album 'Ruben and the Jets' stuck in my head...like...forever. There was a lot of doo-wop carry over in what I was listening to at a young age, so I though how hard can it be to write in that genre. Thank goodness for my harmonizer!

Song Breakdown
Some people think that this was written about my wife, Cindy. Oddly enough, these are people that know her! I can neither confirm or deny that she was or was not the inspiration for this song. …and, no, FYI, I was the one that kicked in my car door.
This song was started years ago by The New Memphis Croon Dawgs. Was Dixie a street? So a little bit south of Dixie meant the wrong side of the tracks? But, no it turned out to be an un-named island in the Caribbean We completed the 1st verse, but then it got complicated, so it was never finished at the time. Years later I “finished” it, but Robert Calloway came up with closer “lying on the sand; admiring her tan; a little bit south of Dixie…MAN!” Ha !
Boy, can I get myself in trouble! This is SO politically incorrect, but it was inspired by some of my co-workers at the Bible publishing company where I worked as a programmer., so it’s kinda…true? No, I’m not going to name names. I’m in enough trouble!
My buddy Rudy Harley came up with the idea of writing a song about going to a beach party. My mind immediately went to the cover of the Beach Boys album where they’re lined up holding a surfboard in front of a woody. Thanks for the inspiration, Beach Boys!
My friend’s life was turned upside down when his wife of almost 40 years left him. Can’t imagine. But he found someone who stopped his long fall to the bottom. This is what I imagined he might have gone through.
When I thought about a boy throwing rocks at a 2nd story window, which was fundamental in so many every teen age movies, I couldn’t think of a single song that had been written about the act of the girl climbing out of the window. So with Doug’s help, we wrote it. Then when I started this project I knew I had to put it in. So I re-wrote the lyrics & put a doo-wop arrangement on it. Just what it needed!

I have no idea where this came from. I think I wrote it in my sleep after going to the Wilson County Fair. This needs to be a music video!
I remember the first time I saw Cindy. It was at the band house on Douglas Ave. in Wichita, KS. Me and Norman had shown up to jam, when these two chicks walked in. The short one was all shy & flirty…and cute! OMG. After they left I asked the guys “Who was THAT??”. You might say I was smitten….
