The e-Mail Band

10 Songs

CD

After years of frustration at not being able to write and record together, Jamey Ratzlaff and Doug Webb decided that an attempt to harness the bourgeoning internet technology was in order. In the mid-1990s, utilizing technology for such an endeavor was very much on the cutting edge. With the advent of mp3 audio compression and the use of email, audio files could be ping-ponged back and forth, to build a finished song.
Ratzlaff who had used his computer skills to record a solo project, began to investigate transferring of MIDI data over the internet. The process was slow and often frustrating; however, the duo managed to write and recorded 10 songs using this process. The final mix was done in Nashville, with both musicians being together for the first time in the recording process.
